"A good bike; my 3 year old son loves it!" 2009-10-11
By Austin Lee
My 3-year-old son loves this bike and clearly preferred this style over every other bike on Amazon.com! The front fork was a little tricky to install (had to squeeze in the front wheel to fit into the fork) but I'm sure it would be easier for someone with the right tools or more experience with bikes. The instructions are one-size-fits-all instructions for all of the various types of bikes sold by the manufacturer, so they are a bit hard to follow. Nevertheless, with a bit of common sense, it's fairly easy to assemble the bike. There is no padding on the handlebars as with other bikes, but a plastic front motocross sign prevents any possibility of the chin or face hitting the handlebars. My only gripe is that some of the motocross decals have wrinkles and look like they won't last very long.

 "Great Bicycle" 2009-09-13

Great Bicycle, not difficult to assemble. My 3 and half years old boy love it. Only have some scratches due to improper handling and shipping.

 "Gift for a 2 year old" 2009-01-06
By E. Simpson (Bartlett, IL)
I bought this for my two year old boy for Christmas. It was a lot to put together. Luckily my husband was able to do that. Not sure if it was something I could have done. A great bike for him. He is riding it around our house until spring comes!

"A Second Tricycle, Not First Bicycle" 2008-05-03
By Munttha Suundhais (Milwaukee WI USA)
Parents/ Grandparents/ Loving Friends and Relatives of Young Riders... please study the promotional photos and product literature closely before purchasing the Kawasaki Mono... it might be better described as a second tricycle than a first bicycle-- mostly because it is very small (the purported 12" tires are really on 8" rims)... but also because it seems to have been proportioned for toddlers: children with shorter legs and longer torsos... the seat and handlebars are only slightly adjustable, which means that the bike will either fit your child out-of-the-box or it probably won't ever... there is only one caliper brake, the front one: the one that will flip your child over the handlebars if they apply it before the coaster brake... to stop safely, your child must learn to operate the coaster brake, so the front caliper brake becomes superfluous... the distance between the peak of the pedal travel and the middle of the seat in its uppermost position is shorter than the same measurement on two tricycles that my kids have now; so, it looks like their knees almost hit their chins when they ride this 'bicycle'... meanwhile, the distance between the middle of the seat and the grips of the handlebars is 2-3" longer than the same measurement on their tricycles; so, they have to lean forward to steer while at the same time their legs look scrunched... the assembly manual covers many different models of cycles-- except this one...! if your child is in-between 'tricycle' and 'bicycle,' then either get a Schwinn Roadster tricycle or a Huffy 16" bicycle instead of the Kawasaki Mono...

Customer Buzz
I read all the reviews before I made the purchase, and I was nervous about the condition of some of the parts. Some reviews said that the shipping caused parts to be bent, etc. But I had no such experience. The box came pristine, and the parts in side were just fine. My husband put together in an hour, and my 3 yr old loves it! She loves blue, so a lot of the girl bikes wouldn't be her cup of tea, since they are mostly pink. This bike is the real deal! We bought her a matching helmut, and a cool bell. A good buy, worth the extra cash.

Customer Buzz
This bike looked amazing in the amazon picture, but in real life the manufacturer does a pretty poor job with the little extras that make it look cool. The little mud fenders are horrible. They make so much noise rubbing, that you need to take them off all together. Also, the parts on the bike had dings that we had to paint, so that it wouldn't rust in those spots. The actual process of putting the bike together is fairly long, and tedious. My daughter loves to ride this bike, but I would have bought a different model had I known the headache putting it together was going to cause.

Customer Buzz
My wife & I searched around on the internet for a good toddler bike for our 3-yr old. We were willing to pay a little more for a decent bike so her sister would be able to use if a few years later.

Received package on date as promised. When I started to put it together, found these little gems:

1. Front forks were too close together, so the front axle wouldn't even fit in the drop outs.
2. both plastic fenders were distorted so they rubbed the tires.
3. chain guard rubbed the chainring because the plastic was distorted.
4. Front tire inner tube valve malfunctioned so it wouldn't even hold air pressure - essentially a flat tire.
5. Rear wheel cassette was so tight that rear wheel wouldn't even rotate freely.
6. Cosmetically, scratches on the frame and stickers either coming off or placed crooked.
7. Not that it was needed, but there were no assembly instructions in the box for those not too familiar with bikes. There is a general owners manual that doesn't even cover the specific model we purchased. Fortunately, there is nothing complex about a toddler bike.

Since I didn't have certain tools to fix some of the major problems, took it to a local bike shop to fix.

When I called CycleSource LLC, left a message regarding my concerns. The customer rep, Steve (515-232-9446), who was nice enough, essentially told me that it was the shipping company's fault and they do not ship out inferior products. Offered help in putting the bike together, but would not replace any of the defective parts.

My advice is to find a local dealer and make a more informed purchase there, if for nothing else, safety for your little one. Kawasaki may produce a quality product (I've owned one of their bullet bikes for years), but you wouldn't know it from our scraps of metal. Our next purchase will be a Kettler, Schwinn, or Specialized from a dealer.

Customer Buzz
Was looking for a quality tyke bike. Am satisfied with the purchase of this one.
Only drawbacks I found on this were:
** Tacky decals (which easily peel off)
** White tires (which do not stay white for long).
** Loose wheel spokes (tighten while assembling.... most bikes come that way out of the box so it isn't a problem unique to this bike)

On the plus side:
** Has a coaster brake. Liked the look of the Red Ryder, but that one has no brakes.
** Full chain guard. Cheaper bikes seemed OK, but most had no chain guards. Fingers and an open sprocket/chain does not seem a good combination
** Ball bearings in all the right places. Maybe the factory lube is good (?), but I redid them with synthetic lube to be sure.
** Heavy duty build. Good welds and apparently beefy tubing in the frame. Weighs a little more than the cheap bikes for that reason, but it isn't heavy.

Overall, a good choice for a bike and at a decent price.

Customer Buzz
Aside from an assembly issue (had to take bike to a bike shop to widen front fork to allow for front tire assembly $10), this is a great, sturdy little bike for any toddler/child to ride. We didn't want a foo-foo pink girly bike that is cheaply built and this bike fit the bill. Solid construction with well-welded joints boosts our confidence that this bike will last for years and several more kids! Plus, it looks like a little motorcycle - pretty cool for a kid!

Customer Buzz
Just like the 12-inch version we bought for our daughter a year or two ago, this Kawasaki girl's 16-inch bike is well worth the money. We are completely satisfied with our purchase. Unlike the big-box store selection (often in over-the-top girly/frilly colors and designs), this bike is quite sturdy, not too cutesy, and includes additional features that other bikes do not. Some of the best selling points include a chainguard that completely covers the chain. It includes a handbrake in addition to the coaster brake. The seat is comfortably padded. And, it comes with a backpack (which can be attached to the front) and a matching water bottle. We only wish that it had a front tire mud-guard. Amazon's price and shipping-time couldn't be beat.

Customer Buzz
My little girl who was turning 6, had been tired of seeing the same old girly accessories on everything...she decided that she wanted more of a COOL bike for her birthday instead of a GIRLY bike. My problem was finding one that would suit her...She finally said that she wanted a BOYS bike because they were cooler...I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of buying a boys bike for her, but when I saw this one, and showed it to her, we were both excited about it...She loves it...She feels like a COOL girl riding it....

Customer Buzz
Neat bike, took me 30 to 40 minutes to self set up. It is durable and well constructed. It arrived early so my daughter saw her surprise before I got home.
