Go-Ped Know-Ped Kick Scooter (Yellow)

Product Description

The Know Ped is the ultimate self-powered push scooter ideal for riders aged 8 and up. The Know Ped is the strongest and most durable push scooter on the market and sets new standards in non-motorized scooter design and construction, with its high ground clearance, front and rear brakes, wider deck and full rubber tires. The go-ped® Craftsmanship and American quality are evident in this high-end scooter.

Customer Buzz
This is an adult sized push scooter. It is self-powered, meaning that you stand on it and push the ground with your feet (ala Fred Flintstone) to proper yourself forward. It is very fun to ride and good exercise.

The scooter consists of a metal frame supported by two rubber (non-inflatable) wheels. The metal frame supports a wooden deck to stand on. The wooden deck has a non-skid black sticker that reads "Go-Ped." The scooter has a metal handlebar that can fold down towards the wooden deck for easy transport.

It has a rear brake which you operate by standing on the metal portion that covers the rear wheel. The handlebar has a bicycle style squeeze-brake that connects to a caliper braking system on the front wheel. The front brake caliper consists of two metal pieces that push against the side of the rubber tires. The sides of the tires are serrated, presumably to enhance braking performance.

The neat thing about this design is that when you wear out braking on the front tires (which use the side of the tire for braking) and on the rear tire (which uses the tire surface for braking), you can simply swap the wheels from front to rear.

The unit is well-designed and can accommodate adults in excess of 250 pounds. The handlebar is tall enough to accommodate me, and I'm 6 feet tall. Because the tires are very wide, it smooths out road vibrations somewhat, but you can still feel the tap-tap-tap of sidewalk gaps after extended riding.

When I received the scooter, there were two minor problems. First, the handlebars and the front wheel were not lined up, so you had to turn the handlebar slightly to the left in order to go straight down the road. Also, the bolts that hold the wooden deck to the frame were loose, and this caused the deck to move from side to side.

I tightened the bolts down, and for $10.00, a local bike shop corrected the alignment of the handlebar and the front wheel. When I ordered a second one, it had the same alignment problem with the handlebar and front wheel, but another $10 repair at the bicycle shop fixed that.

I would have given this scooter 5 stars had I not received two of them with the alignment problem.

Customer Buzz
It's well made and durable but it's just not very stable. When riding it down a hill I felt as though even a minor bump in the road could send me tumbling if I didn't pump the break and slow to a crawl. The mechanism to keep the scooter folded is also very unreliable. It's basically a small hook that hangs loose from the handle that grabs the rear fender. If you try to hold it by the steering shaft it will eventually unhook and unfold, possibly hurting someone.

I was looking for an adult scooter and little did I know that they really do exist. This was perfect. A scooter designed for the adult commuter.

Out of the box, it came in one piece. I did not have to assemble it. Just raise the handle and it snapped together. There were no instructions, so I did not know how to fold it back down. Eventually, I found it. Just pull up on the spring-loaded bar and push the handle down. Easy.

The Know-Ped locks in the folded position with a little latch. That part I found flimsy. I don't think the latch holds well unless I am carrying it by the handle, which gives the latch tension to work. Otherwise, it's not much of a latch. Needs improvement.

The scooter is nice and large, adult size. The board has plenty of room not only for me; I can have one of my kids standing in front of me and still be able to ride. I can put both feet together and stand up straight for coasting downhill. That's less tiring on the legs. Nice.

There is the standard rear brake and a hand brake. The hand brake is very powerful. The first time I used it, I stopped so suddenly, I almost fell because the scooter stopped, but my body kept moving. I need to be more gentle gripping it. The rear brake provides a smoother, slower stop, but I prefer the hand brake. Going down steep hills, it's nice to have both.

The scooter feels solidly built. I love it. I wish there was a kickstand. I know they don't usually come with kickstands, but my kids have one that features a kickstand; and I think it's better to have one so I can stand my scooter upright at my destination, rather than lay it down on the ground or having to fold it up.

The scooter's handlebar height is not adjustable. It's perfect for me at 5`5", but I can see that some adults will be too tall or too short for it.

This scooter was such a great buy for me. I use it to go around the block with my kids and often just to go to the neighbors' houses to fetch them. It's such a fun item to have. I'm glad I bought it.

I purchased my Go-Ped Know-Ped kick scooter in September 2008. As a grown adult, this scooter has been wonderful. The strong construction, light weight, wide deck, and front and rear brakes make commuting across campus a breeze. It really felt good to pass a jogger on my way back to the office. Bonus, the scooter is compact enough to stash in the corner when not in use.

Cheers,
Luke

I am supremely happy with the GoPed. I live and work in my neighborhood in NYC, and I wanted a scooter for travel to work. I have owned other scooters, Razor-type with rollerblade type wheels, and I found them to be dangerous and destructible. The wheels would catch easily over bumps in sidewalk, or skid on grease spills, etc. I'm lucky to be alive. But with the Go Ped, I can safely ride on the sidewalks, the rubber wheels make for a smooth ride. And there is plenty of room for both feet on the base-board, which is very comfortable. It is also very durable and I expect to be using my scooter for a long time. Also you can't beat the price! Other adult scooters sold in the city are overpriced, in my opinion. It is highly worth the wait to buy this one online, (as I haven't found it retail). Did I mention the handle break? Awesome! The look is also very retro-cool, and you can choose from many colors. I haven't seen anyone else in NYC with this scooter yet and I am surprised, it's the best scooter ever, an I am surprised more people don't use it for transport. It's also just a lot of fun to ride, good exercise, and keeps me young. When you see me in NYC on my blue Go-Ped, be sure to say hi.

After searching long and hard for an appropriate adult kick scooter to use on my college campus, I came across this. Having never ridden a scooter before (they weren't commonly around when I was a kid) I was hesitant at first because of the price. There are a lot of cheaper scooters out there but I decided, based on reviews both here on Amazon and other places, that this would be the best value. Boy, was I ever right!! At over 300 pounds, a sturdy build is definitely needed and this most certainly fits the bill (the listed weight capacity from Go-Ped is 400 pounds). The wide deck makes for extremely comfortable riding, I can place my feet side by side when coasting instead of having to stand sideways like on those skinny decks. The front hand brake paired with the rear fender brake make for a very controlled ride even when going downhill. The large, solid wheels make uneven pavement such as cracked sidewalks or uneven concrete slabs a breeze to get over. It's extremely easy to fold up and put in the back seat of my car or stand beside me in class. Contrary to another reviewer, you can indeed allow it to stand by itself, simply fold it and lean it over to where the handlebars are resting on the ground. That coupled with the rear fender make it very stable standing independently when stationary or while moving (as in mass transit) by just resting a hand or forearm on it. On the other hand, because the wheel doesn't have a "wheelie bar" or whatever it's technically called, it's very easy to transport around a building while walking to class simply by holding the frame in the front where it folds and allowing the rear wheel to roll. Although, if you're too tall to do this, the entire scooter is quite light, the listed weight is 11 pounds but that certainly doesn't feel like much.

I highly recommend this scooter to those who are new to kick scooters and veterans alike. It's very easy to use and yet is a good workout. It's perfectly portable and much more compact and easy to use than a bicycle. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I'm glad I didn't let the higher price scare me away. In addition to all the wonderful things I've already listed about it, it's also 100% American made so it helps support our local economy! I guarantee you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

If you are over age 10 or you are going to take your kick scooter beyond your driveway, this is your best choice. It has an ultra-smooth ride, a big wide deck and a front brake. Front brakes do more of the stopping power, just check the pad wear on your bike.I use it for quick trips when a bike feels like too much. The deck has plenty of room for my 7-year-old and me when we scoot to school every morning. Try that on a Razor clone. The big solid rubber wheels roll over cracks and everything else. A great scooter.

The only downsides:

- it's a little bigger annd heavier.
- The clip that holds it folded rattles
- It's made by the same company that makes the noisy, smell, horrible gas-powered Know-Ped, so I feel a little bad about supporting those jerks.

Got this for my 14 year old after he destroyed his third Razor Scooter. He's 5'8" and weighs about 150 lbs. He loves this scooter and is all over the neighborhood with it. He particularly loves having a hand brake - something about all the cool stuff he can do now. I shudder to think what that means. But so far, the scooter is holding up beautifully.

Customer Buzz
As soon as I pulled the scooter from the box, I was appalled by its enormous size. In every dimension the scooter seems to be unreasonably large, particularly surprising is the size of the deck - it's almost a foot wide!
Ok, I know that this item is marketed for adults, but it seems to be designed for unusually wide-footed humans.
I've read reviews from people who actually praised large size as a virtue, yet I wanted a scooter which i can easily take with me on a commuter train, and Knowped's large size made this proposition rather problematic.

The ultimate fault, however, is the fact that when scooter folds, the wheels stick from both ends, which means that scooter can neither stand on it's own nor be leaned against the wall. So whoever decides to take Knowped along on a mass transit ride, must be prepared to hold it for the entire duration of the trip. Once I realized that, I've put scooter in the box and shipped it back.

It just came Fed-ex today. Pulled it out the box -- raised the bar and it snapped into position -- voila!! Step on and coasted across the living room. Wow! Big. Sturdy. Rolls nice. Brakes nice. I'm nearly 300lbs and feel safe, stable and supported on this lovely blue scooter. Now I can join my 7yr old with his razor A for scoots around the neighborhood! Can't wait for my wife to check it out. I think she will want one too. So far so good. If anything bad happens... or more good... I'll be back to update this for sure. But so far very pleased.

UPDATE... OK. That was fun. A bit of a workout in the 90 degree heat today. Me and the kid cruised up and down the block a few times. The deck on this thing is nice and wide, so I was able to coast with both feet next to each other and then switch feet for pushing when one got tired. Folds up much quicker and easier than the razor(I had to struggle with that) and then it's easy to carry up the stairs to our 2nd floor flat.
